Unboxing: Target Beauty Box – May

Target seems to have settled into a box-per-month rhythm. I’m certainly not complaining! If you go to their site and search “beauty box” near the end of the month, you can usually see sneak previews of what’s going to be in the upcoming box. They have been released at the beginning of the month recently, so keep an eye out, and snag one early – they do sell out fast!

I know this is a bit late on this month’s box, but it just builds up more excitement for June’s box, right? *laffs*

First, the insert card that tells you about what you will find in the box. It also has a coupon for $3.00 off any beauty purchase of $15.00 or more – which makes the cost of this box more like $4.00 instead of the $7.00 I spent on ordering it. (Okay, yes – that’s that hinkymath we all do when trying to rationalize a splurge.)

Spring Fling

Must-haves. Can’t-live-withouts. Obsessions. As purveyors of all-things beauty, we at Target Beauty like to keep a lookout for what’s new and now. In this box, you’ll find a few of our faves to keep your routine fun and fresh. Test  ’em out and tell us what you think. And if you love them as much as we do, find the full-size version at Target.com/beautybox.

First was the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. I liked this stuff – there’s no scent to it, and it’s formulated for dry, acne-prone skin. It helps clear away the nasty little bumps many of us get, but at the same time it moisturizes very nicely without irritating already bothered skin. Target sells it for $9.99 for 12 ounces. Not bad!

Next was the Derma E Firming DMAE Mousturizer. I keep hearing so many good things about Derma E! I have to say right off that the scent of this moisturizer, while it’s not overpowering at all, has a bit of a medicinal/disinfectant scent to it. I do just love the silky smooth way it glides on! It just melts into my skin immediately with no greasy feel whatsoever. This retails at Target for $19.99 for two ounces. I received a half ounce in the beauty box, and it’s going to last a good while.

I’ve never heard of Andalou Naturals, so I’m happy to have this added to the box – another chance at discovery! This is their Reservatrol Q10 Night Repair Cream, which sells at Target for $24.99 for 1.7 ounces. It smells really good, like a whiff of vanilla bean. The cream feels cool on the face, and is absorbed very quickly. It’s GMO Free, too, which I love!

And one of the reasons I really wanted to nab this box: Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream! I am really liking this company, even though the BB cream was horrible on me. Their skin care seems to really be well done. This cream is great – it smells like a whiff of wildflowers on a breezy spring day, which totally makes me smile. Love it! It really moisturizes well, plumps up my skin and just is a great addition to my skin care collection. I can also get more at Target (yay!) for $32.00 for 50ml.

Next is Hair Food Dry Shampoo. I was a little confused when I opened my box, because the canister, the lid, and the top spray-y thing were all separated. Was it broken?? I’m not sure, bit it didn’t seem to be. I can sit the spray nozzle where it’s supposed to be and use this just fine. Maybe it was sent that way because of shipping rules or something? Anyway – YUM. This stuff smells terrific. It really does! I think I’ve found my new favorite dry shampoo. Plus I didn’t notice any funky white coating in my hair! It’s really, really expensive, though…. 1.7 ounces for $4.99. (Yeah, not expensive at ALL.)

Oooh, lip color! L’Oreal Le Matte in Matte-r of Fact (which I don’t see on the website anymore…) I normally dislike matte lipsticks because they can still feel drying, cakey, and just heavy on my lips. This, though, I don’t really remember I even have it on. A little goes a long way, and the color is even pretty good on me. I’ll probably check out more when I go shopping again. It’s at Target for $8.99 a tube. I received a full size. and it’s a good amount.

Burt’s Bees! I loveloveLOVE Burt’s Bees. This cleansing oil is no different. It’s Burt’s Bees Basic Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Oils and is formulated for normal to dry skin. Oh, maaaan, it smells wonderful! And it cleans nicely, leaving my skin soft and feeling so good. Target sells it for $15.99 for 6 ounces, with a pump top. The sample comes in a hard plastic bottle with a press-open cap, so it’s a little hard to get enough out without zinging a bit this way and that. Meh, it’s Burt’s Bees. It’s worth the little hassle. 🙂

At first, I took a glance at the Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream and wasn’t that interested. It’s a small foil packet and it just seemed to be another Jergen’s-type lotion. Looking at it again while I write this, I flipped it over and saw what was written on the back:

Life takes from the taker & gives to the giver.

Above all, let your word be your bond.

Blessings unto you, Precious One. Please enjoy this all purpose moisturizing cream based on the legendary balm of the sages, mystics and healers of Kamit (Ancient Egypt). Made from the finest all-natural ingredients, the cream may be used on face, hands, and body.

How can I resist that spiel??? It made me laugh because no one would use a sales pitch like that – no one not on really late night infomercials, at least. I loved that. It comes out of the package looking mooshy and a bit gross, but you’re supposed to rub it in your palms until it turns to oil. It does that pretty fast. The stuff smells like it’s all-natural, with no perfumes to hide the oil scent, but it does seem to moisturize well. (I used it on my hands and arms – not brave enough to try it on my face first time.) I do kind of like it, outside the scent. It’s at Target for $38.00 for 4 ounces.

Then there’s more from L’Oreal: Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes For Body. For $7.79 you can get 6 of these at Target. I haven’t used them, and probably won’t – I’m just leery when it comes to self-tanning products. Not because they might be dangerous, but because I don’t wants streaks or for the color to rub off onto what I’m wearing. L’Oreal is a good company, so I’m sure this is a great product. I’m just not going to try it. Probably not. Okay, who knows – I might try it out of curiosity some time.

The new box should be out in about a week – keep an eye out for it on the Target website! They are usually between $5.00 and $10.00, depending on what’s in them. And don’t forget there’s the $3.00 coupon off your $15.00 beauty purchase (cosmetics, skin care, hair care).

Lots of things. Syd likes to dance, too, but she looks like an utter goob doing so!

    1. You should get the next one, unless it’s full of stuff you’d never use. (That’s happened to me a couple times!) And that’s great to hear about the Cerave – another bonus! 🙂

      1. You’re welcome! I think they are sold out of the “girl box” now, but they might have more “boy boxes” left. Target has been releasing them at the beginning of the month the last four or five times, I think. 🙂 Have fun!
