“What’s your favorite movie?”
Mrph! Another question that doesn’t have just one answer. Right off the bat, I would say The Princess Bride. A wonderfully funny romance with a killer duel that seems to win over the guys who shudder at “chick flicks” (which this is not).
Follow the quest of a young swashbuckler (Cary Elwes) to rescue the beautiful title heroine (Robin Wright) from her sinister husband-to-be (Chris Sarandon), in director Rob Reiner’s fun and fetching fairy tale for the whole family. Along the way, our hero encounters a host of colorful characters, including a wily mastermind (Wallace Shawn), a gentle giant (Andre the Giant), and a noble Spanish swordsman (Mandy Patinkin).
Then comes to mind another movie. Okay, not really a movie – a mini series. But I’ll include it anyway: Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. I can watch this one over and over again!
The countryside of early 1800s England is the setting for laughter, tears, and romance in this superb BBC One miniseries based on the Jane Austen novel, as five sisters are “gently” pushed by their parents into finding suitable husbands and thus preserving the family estate. The fine cast includes Jennifer Ehle, Colin Firth, Alison Steadman, Susannah Harker.
Does anyone have any movie suggestions for me?
