Friday Photography: Little Surprises

Just as I was working on my blog post for yesterday’s Friday Photography, a thunderstorm hit and decided to play havoc with the electricity. It came back on after a few minutes, thank goodness, but kept the internet out into the night.

Tuesday morning I woke to a very coral shade of sunlight washing through the windows. Looking out, I could actually see the difference in the hazy sky. Hims thought it might be due to pollution in the air, but there was no pollution alert (unlike on Wednesday) and the coral-pink color remained with us all day long.

Even after a pop-up shower that afternoon, the sunlight kept that tinge. The plants were as green as green could be, though, and seemed to love the sudden rain we had!

The flowers perked up even more, drinking in the welcome water.

I stuck my head out the front door a couple hours after the rainshower, and some movement under the bushes in front of the door caught my eye. It was a mama duck, leading her duckling through the front yard! I ran inside to grab my camera, and had to rush to catch up with them as they rounded the corner to the back of the building. Apparently she has a nest directly behind our place! I left some crackers for them in the grass, but haven’t seen them since that day. Maybe they’ve moved up to one of the small ponds nearby?

I love little surprises like that!

Syd is a Midwestern girl who doesn’t think the term “girl” is sexist in the least – especially after she left her 20s. She holds a huge love for history (from WWI through the end of WWII, Victorian, Regency, and Elizabethan eras), some science fiction, and likes to pass the time reading, working with photography and needlework, and writing things. Lots of things. Syd likes to dance, too, but she looks like an utter goob doing so!
